Welcome to the website of the Worshipful Company of Curriers, one of the 108 Livery Companies of the City of London. The 'Art & Mystery' of the Currier is as old as history. His craft is described in Homer and the first recorded mention of currying in England dates from 1276.

The Worshipful Company of Curriers is number 29 in the order of seniority of City of London Livery Companies and continues to support the Mayoralty and the work of the Corporation. It also supports education and charity in the London area.

Currier at workIt is hardly surprising that its original trade is no longer practised in the City, and the majority of the leather worked in the United Kingdom today is dressed and prepared overseas. However, modern-day currying continues to a limited extent in a number of centres of expertise around the country, including Walsall in the West Midlands.

This site contains information about the history of the Currier's craft and the organisation and the current work of the Curriers' Company. Eventually it is planned to introduce a members only area, which will benefit Freemen and Liverymen by making up-to-date information available on coming events and a regularly updated Livery List.

All contacts with the Worshipful Company of Curriers should be made through the Clerk, although it must be stressed that the Company is unable to undertake historical research, as the Clerk has no staff archivist to call upon. Many documents owned by the Curriers' Company are, however, available for study by history students in the Guildhall Library
